My Thanksgiving break was much needed. I was very tired of all the homework and constant school.
The first thing I did was go to Steak and Shake with Mazie. We were going to see a movie afterwards, but we talked so much that we ended up missing it. We talked for about two hours. We both had plenty of food and milkshakes. Next it was Thanksgiving day. I got together with my family and had a great time. The mac and cheese was my favorite. Finally, over the weekend, I decorated my house for Christmas. I covered my stair railing in lights, put up my christmas tree, and decorated cookies with my friends. The cookies look like trees, Santa, boots, and ugly sweaters. They are very good. I'm looking forward to Christmas break so that I can spend more time with my friends and family, along with decorating more and enjoying the break from school.

This Thanksgiving, I am going to go to my grandma's house. I go there every year with my family. She lives fifteen minutes away, so I'm luckier than many of my friends who live far away from their families.
My family (mom, dad, sister), my uncle and his two sons, and my grandparents. The nine of us have spent every holiday together since I was little. When we first get to their house in the morning we watch the Macy's Day Parade. All the children explain which cartoons are which to our grandfather. We play with the dog while the grown ups talk around the table. We usually have big Thanksgiving dinners with a big turkey and a big pie, but this year is going to be different. My Grandparents are both getting more ill day by day. They have trouble doing basic tasks like standing up or walking to the bathroom nowadays, so they cannot cook. My dad has problems with his back and ankles and doesn't stand up for long periods of time, so he cannot cook. My mom just had elbow surgery and is still attempting to start going to work again, so she cannot cook. My uncle has stage four cancer and definitely, absolutely, no way, can cook. The rest of us are just kids and can barely figure out how to turn on a stove. Because of this, we are just going to bum this year. We plan to make sandwiches from store-bought bread and ham. None of us are arguing. As long as we're all together, it doesn't matter what we're eating. After we eat everything gets disorganized. The two cousins go to dinner with the other side of their family. The uncle goes pre-Black Friday shopping (probably not this year). My parents take naps on the couch. My sister and I watch the Thanksgiving specials on TV. It's not perfect, but I wouldn't want t any other way. Three children are sitting on a log near a stream. One of them looks up at the sky and says "watch out!" At that moment, an apple fell out of the tree and landed at the boys feet. They were instantly inspired to make an apple pie. Trevor, the youngest and the smallest, climbed the trees to grab more apples. Charlie, the middle child, caught the apples as they fell. Joe, the oldest, ran around the house gathering supplies; sugar, butter, and eggs. They all met back up inside the house. They chopped the apples into small pieces. They mixed the crust Ingredients together. They preheated the oven. About an hour later, their masterpiece was done. The three boys gazed at their golden brown apple pie. They topped it with an entire can of whipped cream. The three boys went back to the log near the stream with their pie. They ate the entire thing with their hands quickly before their mom had a chance to came home and punish them. It was the best moment of all of their lives, they had never felt so triumphant or rebellious. That is, until their mother came home and saw the mess they made in the kitchen. She looked out the window, saw the boys having fun, and cleaned up the mess for them. She didn't want to ruin their fun.
My favorite holiday is Christmas. I like to hear the christmas music everywhere and the all the decorations in store windows. Snow is my favorite thing in the entire universe. Whenever i see snow on the ground I run outside and have the time of my life. Living in Ohio, I've grown to love the cold weather that comes with Christmas. Snow days are always fun. I hang out with my friends outside in the snow. Then we usually stay inside and watch movies by the fire.
I like dressing up, too. I wear a Santa hat basically all December. I have Christmas earrings and Christmas leggings with reindeer on them. My dad makes fun of me for it, but I love wearing them. The night before Christmas my mom helps me making cookies. We ice them with green and red frosting. They are always in the shapes on trees, snowflakes, and Santa Claus. On christmas I go to my Grandmas house. My two cousins, Christopher and Nathan, come with my Uncle Jeff. We eat fondue and play with the dog with our fluffy socks. The boys play their new video game while I take a nap. Everyone is happy and together, and thats why Christamas is my favorite holiday. April was born in July. I knew that was her name because of the way she smiled at dogs on the street. I knew that was her birth month by the ruby glow radiating around her. Or at least, that’s the only reason I could come up with as to why she was glowing red. This is not a poetic way of saying that she stood out in a crowd (though she did), or to say that she was of the utmost beauty (though she was). I had seen glowing people before to say the least. Happy people tend to be purple, sad tend to be blue. People who were in love were green like the grass and people who were suicidal were green like the ocean. I had seen so many colors that I never wondered if I was missing one.
Her scarlet aura was of course the first thing I noticed, but the strength of her glow couldn’t be understated. It was brighter than any set of headlights you could come across on a dark country road. The way she carried her glow was remarkable. It was laid atop her auburn corkscrews. Her dark freckles. Her chestnut eyes. Every detail about her was so average yet so unbelievably unique. Even my old dog, Charles, seemed to take notice of her when she entered my small coffee shop. He stood up from his usual hiding spot under the third table from the door, something he only does when he hears the word, ‘treat’. She pet him and left. "I have been to lots of concerts before." When I was really young, this referred to Hannah Montana or The Jonas Brothers. As I got older, this referred to Veruca Salt or Royal Teeth, bands my mom liked. It was not until I was 13 that i experienced my first real concert. I went to Bunbury, a popular music festival in Ohio. I went for two of the three days. At the end of the second day, I knew that Paramore was going to preform on the main stage. The first day I went stage hopping and saw dozens of different performance. I saw everything from acoustic to rock to electronic. Nothing that I had heard of before. However, the second day, I waited with my mom all day at the main stage to get a good spot to see my favorite orange haired beauty. The waiting was worth it when she finally came out. I got to have the whole concert experience, filled with dancing and singing along, and I would not change it for anything.
1. I want to get a good grade on my next math test. My grade in that class is not the best right now and A's never hurt.
2. I want to talk my mom into letting me go to North Carolina during spring break this school year. I have not seen my best friend, Kassady, in a long time, and visiting her would be a lot of fun. I have vacation plans all set up, just need my moms approval. 3. Finally, I want to not break my phone for another year. It lasted through the first year, now I just need to make it though another until I get a new one. Spending a year with a cracked screen would not be fun. I sat down with my mom to talk about her love of dogs. Not unlike me, she enjoys Jack Russel Terriers, "I've always had them, ever since I was a child." This was due to her fathers like obsession with the breed because of their small size and generally friendly attitude.
She has had three in her adulthood so far, "Cracker Jack, Barney, and Baxter,". With a name such as Barney, I had to ask why he was named that. The answer was simple; she did not name him. Her one year old daughter, Hannah, named him after her favorite TV purple dinosaur. As a fellow lover of dogs, I would love if my family got another one sometime soon, but it seems as if that will not happen, "No, I do not plan on getting another dog. I want all the stray dog hair gone,". I'll have to agree with her on that one. She went on further to say that she can no longer wear black without being covered in the copious amounts of white hair from our couches, floors, and everything else in our house, including directly from the dog. Who, by the way, demands lots of attention, "Most of the time Baxter is more needy than my two teenage daughters. He wants all eyes to be on him constantly,". Upon asking her how often she goes to the dog park, she smiled, knowing that I already know the answer, "I try to go as often as possible with you. Under good circumstances, twice a month. We're both very busy,". She likes the dog park because of the fresh air and open space, and the other dogs, of course. Baxter loves the park. He prefers playing with the big dogs opposed to the small dogs, "Sometimes, I'm worried that they'll crush him! He is so much smaller than them....by about 90 pounds,". Overall, Bonnie loves all dogs, but especially her little puppy, Baxter. She hopes he lives a long life. |
